I Plead Insanity

I've been a bad, bad blogger.  I admit that.  It's a little nagging voice in the back of my head..."You should write something for your blog, ya know.  People will stop caring. "  Sigh.  Can I just plead the insanity of the holiday season?  I feel like I need at least twice as many hours in every day just to get half the things done that I want to get done.  I need a clone.  Or a wife.  Or possibly a shorter "to do" list.

I did get the tree up and decorated, presents bought and wrapped, candy and bread made for my coworkers, and actually sent Christmas cards this year!  Granted, my Christmas cards have zombies on them but what did you expect?  Personally, I think they are the best Christmas cards EVER.  Here is the picture we included:

Not sure how we are going to top that next year.  I'm voting for a steampunk theme.  I am totally obsessed with steampunk right now.  What is steampunk?  So glad you asked!  It is kind of a fusion of retro and futuristic.  A combination of Victorian and space age with lots of filigree and pressure gauges.  Think 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Howl's Moving Castle.  Check out this amazing steampunk office:

This steampunk laptop is, without a doubt, the coolest thing ever made.  You have to watch the video of how it turns on the computer when you turn the cool Victorian key in the slot.  It sounds like you are winding up a giant metal toy.  So awesome!  I need it very, very badly.

But I digress.  I was making excuses for my lack of blogging, right?  All that holiday nonsense to get done, etc.  But today is the first day of my vacation and, wonder of wonders, my children still have three more days of school!  The hours stretch gloriously out in front of me.  What shall I do first??  Well, there are still presents to wrap and a few presents left to make but I am dying to get to work on products for my second Etsy store.  Yes, like a proper crazy person, I am opening another Etsy shop because I have so much extra time on my hands.  This one is for my geeky alter ago and will be called "BlessedaretheGeek".  The name was just too good to go to waste.

Last night we went to the kids' Christmas program at school and it was wonderfully sweet.  Rowan is fighting a cold and going through a timid phase so she sat this one out in the audience with us.  Maddy, on the other hand, has turned into this amazing social butterfly who loves to perform and participate in everything.  I never saw that coming.  She was always so fearful, shy and clingy when she was younger.  It's such a joy to see her face all lit up.  She just shines.

Maddy played "Silent Night" on the piano which she picked out by ear and then taught herself to play two handed the day before the performance.  All the other kids who played pieces take lessons and brought sheet music.  She did great.  I'm always amazed by how brave and determined she is.

They have a wonderful music teacher at their school.  They are really lucky.

They do look a little undeadish with their eyes glowing, don't they?

Maddy was completely cocky and sarcastic with the weird sunglasses wearing Santa.  He asked her if she'd been good and she said, "Nope." and when he asked her what she wanted, she said, "I want to be Queen of the World.  And I want a hippopotomus."  What a goofball.

I made this Winter Queen scarflette for my Etsy street team's Winter Challenge:

Go to my Etsy store and add it to your favorites!  Whoever gets the most "hearts" wins the challenge and the people who vote are eligible for really awesome prize packs filled with stuff made by the team.  You can see all of the challenge entries HERE.

I still haven't managed to set up the Christmas village - although I did bring the box in from the barn - or made cookies, or hung up the stockings.  My house is a complete and utter disaster.  I have several half finished Christmas presents lying about and some that haven't even been started yet. I am probably completely delusional about how much I can accomplish in the next three days while the kids are at school and I am not.  But I'M ON VACATION!!  And I blogged.

Praying for Whirled Peas

Jewelry artist That's Headley has this to say about her work:  "It all started with daisy chain chokers in junior high...I've been hooked on beads ever since. I love "rocks" the most, but glass and crystal are fun, too, especially funky-beautiful beads from Africa. I share my designs through my shop on Etsy, which serves as a stress-reducing supplement to my "real" life as a public health consultant in infectious disease and emergency preparedness."

She makes gorgeous wire wrapped jewelry that makes me drool!  I am always amazed and impressed by people who have the skill and patience for wire wrapping.  It makes my hands hurt just looking at it!

This Wishing for Whirled Peas necklace is totally awesome!

I love the way she put the little holly berry danglies on rings in this fun bracelet.

I love how simple and elegant these earrings are.  They would look gorgeous with anything.

A portion of the proceeds from all of the pieces in her "Whirled Peas" collection will go to Fisher House. The Fisher House™ Foundation program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. The program began in 1990, and has offered nearly 2-1/2 million days of lodging to more than 110,000 families. This lodging is made available free of charge to these families in need. Regardless of the politics of war, our wounded soldiers and their families need our support, and support of the Fisher Houses is one way we can lend a hand.

In addition, for all pieces in the Hope for Whirled Peas Collection, shipping will be FREE WORLDWIDE .

So spread a little peace today.
